The world is not a lonely place
The world is not a lonely place;
it greets everyone with a mile-wide smile.
Yet it feeds on loneliness;
it feasts on yours and mine.
Alas, there’s a great party going.
The world IS, and still IS
the greatest party ever.
You and me can be sure of this, though:
you and me are IN this party.
Great, right?
Now whose party is this? What kind of party is this?
I’m sure it’s fun, but fun for whom?
Who are we, and who is everybody?
Are we the host, the guests, or neither?
Are we the security people checking each guess for uninvited faces,
or are we the unwanted people they tried so hard to keep out?
Or perhaps we are nothing but
tidbits and snacks served up on some corner table:
delectable, desirable, and dead.
‘The world is a sad and lonely place,’ they said.
That’s a blatant lie, and there is no greater lie than that.
Here’s the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth:
The world is partying, and they’re partying at our expense.
Don’t be lonely!
Never let yourself think that you are lonely!
You’re not the only one.
You are not alone.
